What is a termite inspection?

A termite inspection is also called a timber pest inspection.
A Qualified licensed timber pest inspector will conduct a comprehensive inspection of your home and property for signs of termites this will include areas of concern and past or current damage.

Out timber pest technician will also provide you with an inspection report with photos of all areas inspected this report will be supplied to you on the day of inspection. The report will alert you to termite access areas and potential problems, as well as any existing problems.

Why is it so important to have a termite inspection?

The initial termite inspection is the most important part of any termite control. If you have termites or think you could have termites the first requirement is to determine what the best treatment will be for your property. We take into account the severity of your particular termite infestation or the potential for infestation.

And the only what to do this is with the right type of termite inspection.

Whenever we conduct a termite inspection on a home, we perform a full and comprehensive inspection of the premises. This process includes inspecting both inside and out, to determine:

  • The extent of any present termite infestation.
  • Potential risk factors associated with your property.
  • Areas of your property that may be conducive to a termite attack.
  • What treatment method will best suit your property and landscape needs.

We use the latest technology in termite location. We also possess a range first class industry tools at our disposal. This means we can accurately assess the extent of the termite infestation in your property.

This is some of the technology we may use:

  • Termatrac radar detection – uses radar pulse technology to determine termite movement through your walls.
  • Thermal imaging – allows us to find areas where the temperature may be conducive to termite presence.
  • Moisture detection – shows us the areas of the home that may have a build-up of moisture, with Moisture comes termites.

Having the right tools, knowledge and experience means that this not only gives you peace of mind but also give us the same knowing we have inspected your home the right way the first time and every time, a regular or follow-up inspection must also not be over looked.

It has no adverse effects on humans or pets, but it is highly effective against termites. The effect of baiting can take anywhere from one to six months.

Foaming
This termite treatment method is most successful in areas with small corners or cracks that may otherwise be difficult to reach. Because it spreads through the nesting material, it coats all the surfaces the termites travel on, stopping them in their tracks.
Dusting
The termite dust is released directly onto the areas where termites are visible, and then the area is sealed. After being affected by the dust, the termites return to the termite colony, where they become infected.

Combining this method with other termite treatments may be necessary to ensure complete eradication.

Direct Liquid Treatment
In this termite treatment method, we use a registered termiticide. We generally employ this method when termites are found around the property line, in trees, shrubs, or retaining walls.

The Next Steps
After completing your termite inspection we will provide you with a customised recommendation.

This is a Termite Management Plan and Proposal, this will outline the treatment  prevention methods that will remove or prevent your property from termite attack.

Termite Treatments
In 1995 the type of termite treatment systems fitted in a building, mainly with concrete slabs, changed. The new style of termite treatment involved a change in concrete slab design so that the slab did not crack for the full thickness and restricted termite entry to either around drainage pipes or at slab edges.

New systems were installed at slab level and can only be included prior to brickwork.

The initial systems included chemical, Termimesh or Granitguard. Later approvals have been given to Kordon and reticulation systems.

There are ongoing changes as well as approval for additional products. Each system has different characteristics and requirements and full information on each product and installation is available from the manufacturer or installer. Termite treatment systems require approval under Australian Standard 3660. 1-1995 and amended in 2000. It is also a requirement that a durable sticker is placed in the meter box to identify which system has been installed and when.

Types of Termite Treatments
There are several methods available to treat subterranean termites.
Chemical Termite Barriers
A chemical treatment is the most common treatment type available for subterranean termites. The goal of a subterranean termite chemical treatment is to establish a continuous termiticide barrier between the termite colony (usually in the soil) and timber in a building. This is done by placing termiticide in the soil around the foundation elements to provide a barrier preventing termites from entering the structure. Technicians trench the soil and inject termiticide beneath it. This creates a protective barrier around the property.

Termite Baiting System (In-Ground)
In-ground baiting systems are also becoming a popular method for treatment of subterranean termites. A subterranean termite baiting system involves placement of cellulose (wood material) bait stations at strategic locations around the perimeter of the home.

Worker termites, which constantly forage for wood to feed their colony, locate the cellulose bait stations and leave special scent trails to summon their mates to the food source. The cellulose material in the bait station is then replaced with a chemical inhibitor, retarding the moulting process in termites and preventing them from growing.

The carrier termites then bring the chemical back to the colony and–if everything goes well–spread the inhibitor throughout the remainder of the colony. Because of the growth inhibitor, the carrier and the rest of the colony will die.

All our technicians are highly experienced in all areas of pest control. We ensure treatments are safe for kids and pets, we use eco-friendly products and IGR’S (insect growth regulators).

Termite Monitoring -v- Termite Baiting

Monitoring and baiting systems for termites are usually made up of plastic housings placed in the ground around your property. Exterra was the main system installed Australia wide , the station contain samples of wood for monitoring. In the event that termites are active in the area, they will begin feeding on this wood.

In regular inspections, termite activity is detected, and a termite bait is added, which the termites feed on, ultimately killing them and the queen.

This type of systems were called Monitoring Systems ,This was confused as a full termite baiting systems. The system was designed to give the homeowner peace of mind once a monitoring system was installed they had something protecting their home from termites, however for this to work the pest control company had to maintain it.

Bait Servicing
The Termite Bait System must be serviced 4-12 weekly after installation to inspect the baits are being consumed by the termites if left any longer  then 4-12 weeks termites may have left the station, as termites will seek out another food source. Any stations that need fresh timber or bait added would be done during a site visit.  A site visit sheet would also be created and emailed to the property owner.

This old system was also wrongly called a baiting System, as was not a full baiting system, as bait was only added to the old system if and when termites eat the wood this was a 3 step process and this would only work if and when the inspections were maintained and if only the termites were still in the station. Then you had the ongoing inspections.

Now moving forward, welcome to the New Innovation Baiting Systems of – Sentricon ‘Always Active’ Termiticide Rods, One of our recommended innovation in termite protection.

Well now its a reality, and if you don’t have Sentricon ‘Always Active’ Rods installed or one of our recommended termite baiting programs in your current termite baiting/monitoring system, then you’re not making the most of your termite baiting system.

Conventional Style termite baiting systems do not provide protection, unless they are being serviced and monitored on a regular basis. Some conventional termite baits can be effective if correctly tended to by an experienced professional, but otherwise, they can simply provide a food source for termites to close to your property.

In any Termite Inspection we recommend removing all lose timbers away from your property so you need to ask yourself why? any termite control would recommend installing timbers close to your property.

The ‘Always Active’ Rods reduce the human error element, which causes more problems than the conventional baiting process on it’s own.

This quote courtesy of AEPMA, (Australian Environmental Pest Managers Association) says it all clearly in one short paragraph:

Newly registered, Sentricon™ AlwaysActive™ from Dow AgroSciences, delivers all the benefits of both a baiting system and a chemical barrier, with none of the drawbacks. Sentricon AlwaysActive controls termites from the day it’s installed and has actually been shown to eliminate multiple termite colonies before the Pest Manager has even detected them.

The Sentricon ‘Always Active’ Rods replace archaic timber attractant materials used to attract foraging termites into a bait station, for secondary feeding with the introduction of a poison by a Termite Professional once termites have been identified in a bait station. It’s a concept which seems to have been discounted until Sentricon’s recent innovation.

The ‘Always Active’ Rods have been found to be more palatable and attractive than timber, with the added bonus of containing Hexaflumuron to destroy feeding termite colonies without needing to add more materials.

So not only are termites more likely to be attracted to the stations containing the rods, but they can not stop themselves from automatically feeding on the very product that will kill them and the queen and nest.

The Sentricon® system is THE standalone solution for complete termite colony elimination

Efficacy
Backed by more than 60 scientific and 30 independent research studies, Sentricon is one of the main termite control product proven time and again to eliminate entire colonies

The Sentricon Always Active Rods need no additional attractants to come out on top.

This is why: The Sentricon® system is scientifically designed to eliminate the entire subterranean termite colony — including its queen.

#The Always Active rods can kill termites colonies with less interaction from your termite professional.
#Always Active Rods find termites faster than most other conventional termite baiting materials.
#The Always Active Rods last up to 5 years in the ground unless depleted by termites.
#Always Active loaded termite baiting systems is an Active product, require less maintenance than any of the termite monitoring old style systems.
#The use of the Sentricon Always Active Rods, deletes the need for a professional to feed a poison to termites in order to eradicate them.

#Sentricon Always Active Rods can also be retrofitted into most old style termite monitoring systems if needed to.

All our technicians are highly experienced in all areas of pest control. We ensure treatments are safe for kids and pets, we use eco-friendly products and IGR’S (insect growth regulators).

Another Monitoring System Is Nemesis

The NEMESIS Termite Monitoring and Baiting System is an Australian-made and owned, safe and non-invasive solution for eliminating termites. If Proven Pest And Termite Control technicians should find termites at your home, or deem the risk of termite activity to be high, they may recommend  a NEMESIS Monitoring only system.

Using a number of discrete stations for in-ground and above-ground interception of active termites, NEMESIS’ innovative design employs an insect growth regulator (IGR) as the active constituent in its bait. Any termites that feed on the highly attractive bait then transfer the IGR to other members of the colony undetected, unwittingly bringing down the colony from within, like Manchurian Candidate-style sleeper agents.

NEMESIS above-ground stations are placed directly over the active areas; this engages the termites and results in faster colony elimination. Additionally, NEMESIS in-ground stations may be deployed around the perimeter of your home. Termite-attractive timber inserts are placed inside these external stations and are monitored on a regular basis for termite activity.

NEMESIS termite bait is perfectly safe for all non-termite residents at your home, being a registered product under the requirements of legislation administered by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority.

The NEMESIS Termite Monitoring and Baiting System:

  • Is an innovative and proven approach to termite control
  • Is an effective solution that is less invasive or disruptive a treatment process than more traditional chemical methods
  • Greatly reduces the risk to non-target insect or animal species by directly targeting termite colonies
  • Reduces the risk of environmental damage, especially compared with chemical treatment methods
  • Is a visible method; the process is transparent, allowing for a co-operative approach to termite control with your Proven Pest And Termite Control technician
  • Stations Can be used either as a localised treatment to a specific area of your home, or as a full installation to the perimeter
  • Stations Can be applied to other structures on your property, such as sheds, gazebos, decking or fences
